Squeak in General
Who is Squeak... and why the name?
Well, Squeak was created by Pippa Oostergetel. As a Textile Designer working within the industry in Melbourne, she slowly got tired of designing product for other people and decided to start designing her own product. Pippa has what we call, ah-hem… an obsession with scarves, so it was a natural place for her to start.
And why the name you ask, well, she's known as Pipsqueak of course!
Where are your products designed and made?
In Melbourne… the design capital of Australia. Well, we may be a little bias there, but you have to admit, Melbourne has an amazing design culture.
All our products are manufactured offshore, either in India or China, depending on the product. All factories where Squeak products are being manufactured have been checked for ethical workplace practices and we are confident that our products are being made in a safe and ethical environment. We have a wonderful relationship with our manufacturers, they are part of the team and we all work together to make sure that Squeak products are of the highest quality.
Who designs your products?
Pippa does all the designing, in fact a lot of her own photography is in the designs themselves. She uses a range of techniques, hand painting/drawing, photography and of course designing on computer.
Where can I see your Products?
If you want to see our products in the flesh then you’ll need to find your local stockist. Email us at info@squeakdesign.com and we’ll notify you of your closest retailer. We also attend design markets regularly. Stay up to date with which markets we’ll be attending by following us on Facebook or Instagram.

What are your products made from?
We only use natural fibres here at Squeak. So that means natural silks, cottons and even genuine leather.
How do I keep my scarf looking pretty?
Good question. Firstly, if you get your scarf dirty, then don’t fret. If it’s a relatively simple and small stain then try and give it a bit of a spot clean. Just dab it with a clean cloth and some cold water. Avoid all chemicals. However, for the bigger stains, a full wash and if spot cleaning doesn’t work, you really should just bite the bullet and take it to a dry cleaner. They will make sure it gets cleaned up nicely!
How do I look after my canvas bag?
Firstly, we highly recommend treating your bag with some form of fabric and leather protector before you use it. This will help prevent stains and the general dirt that builds up after constant use…and let’s face it, you will be using your bag constantly. Test a small area of the bag first to make sure the product you have chosen won’t stain the bag.
If you do manage to get your bag dirty, however, then we recommend spot cleaning. Simply dab at your bag with warm water and a clean cloth, maybe even a little fabric cleaner. Don’t over soak and try not to get the leather too wet, as you may get water stains. If your bag doesn’t have metallic foiling on it, then you may even be able to take it to the dry cleaners and ask if they think they can get some of the dirt out.
How do I clean my quilt?
We recommend dry cleaning the quilts. They are so beautiful and hand stitched, we’d hate for it to get ruined. You can of course spot clean it, but for a thorough wash then dry cleaning is the best option.
