Love

I love my Silk Kimono I purchased it from Finders Keepers where the lovely girl who makes these served me. I purchased the L and I don't care that it's big on me. I always get compliments and people ask where I purchased it from. I have washed it numerous times and it's as smooth as silk. I will definitely purchase more

Rough

Just spent the week in the Whitsundays and they just wouldn't breathe so I wrote in and then had to hand wash my brand new kimonos and they feel ..... well not like silk.

Washing Options

Dry Clean

The star quality service would be to dry clean your silk. We get it though, not everyone has the time or money. Don't worry, there are other options, but if you do want to treat it the best way possible, then head to your local dry cleaner.

Hand Wash

Hand washing is the second best option.

1) Spot clean by gently dabbing with a damp cloth if there is only a small mark.

2) Fill a sink or bucket with lukewarm water and add the recommended amount of silk/wool detergent. Do not use standard detergent—must be silk/wool detergent. (Usually liquid form and can be found at the supermarket)

3) Dunk your garment into the water and lightly squeeze the fabric. Do not scrub or rub too roughly. Rinse with clean water afterwards.

4) Hang to dry on a coat hanger.

NOTE: For a special treat, we recommend, after washing, to rinse your silk in another bucket of water with a splash of white vinegar. Keeping the fiber acidic will make sure it stays strong and healthy with a lovely sheen.

Machine Wash

Machine washing is the third option, but as long as you're not doing it too often, it's completely fine.

1) Spot clean by gently dabbing with a damp cloth if there is only a small mark.

2) Place in a laundry bag and put your machine on a silk/delicates cycle. MUST use silk/wool detergent, not standard detergent. (Usually liquid form and can be found at the supermarket)

3) Hang to dry on a coat hanger.

NOTE: If you're going to machine wash your silk, we highly recommend you pamper your silk afterwards with a vinegar bath. After wash, fill a sink or a bucket with lukewarm water and add a splash of white vinegar. Rinse, then hang to dry.

Keeping the fiber acidic will make sure it stays strong and healthy with a lovely sheen.

Iron

Your garment will likely need ironing or steaming after hand or machine washing.

If you have a steamer, they're great, but don't be too afraid of the iron either. Just put it on a light to medium setting and don't forget about it and head off to make a cup of tea.

Otherwise, you can also hang your garment on a hanger and put it in the bathroom while you have a steamy shower!
